I was late to the party to experience the joys of skiing in Italy, but now that I have, I’m an avid fan. Italy offers jaw-dropping scenery, superb restaurants and skiing that is amongst the best in the world. Plus, the luxurious chalets in the Italian Alps are to die for, made all the more special by their rarity.
Skiing in Italy certainly has its unique flavour. Pistes are often quieter than the larger resorts in France, Austria and Switzerland, so you are sure to get plenty of great skiing in.
The dramatic and beautiful scenery of the Italian Alps transforms in the warmer months. A different beauty, of lush plains and bright flowers, surrounds the unique mountain ranges. From mountain biking to rock climbing and horse riding, summer ski chalet rental in Italy offers plenty to enjoy.
Beyond the well-known Alpine ski areas, I highly recommend the Dolomites for your next luxury ski holiday. With its impossibly beautiful landscapes, the Dolomites are an essential ‘bucket-list’ destination for every keen skier.
The Dolomites are in the eastern section of the Italian Alps. Its limestone peaks form distinctive, jaw-dropping jagged ridges and pinnacles. The unique geography and geology of the area make it an Instagrammer’s paradise.
There are many fantastic ski resorts near the Dolomites. These resorts connect to form part of the famous Sella Ronda ski route. Our collection includes outstanding luxury ski chalets in Italy, with many dotted around the Dolomites. The regional Dolomiti Superski area is massive, and as beautiful as it is enjoyable to ski.
The ski resorts of Selva, Christina, Ortisei, and San Cassiano connect in Val Gardena Valley, near Sella Ronda. Cortina d’Ampezzo is another iconic Italian ski resort, and increasingly popular each year. It sits slightly further east and has that magical combination of exceptional skiing and a beautiful village centre. Because there are few luxury chalets across many areas of the Dolomites, we group them into our Dolomites collection.
For those in the know, the Italian ski resort of Cervinia is a skier’s dream. It is in the same ski area as Zermatt in Switzerland, but it’s on the Italian side of the Matterhorn mountain. This means that skiers in Cervinia share the same high-altitude pistes as its more well-known Swiss neighbour. The top lift climbs to a phenomenal 3883m in altitude, so skiers will be pretty much guaranteed decent snow.
If you love food as much as the locals do, the Italian Alps are an obvious ski destination. The Dolomites is a foodie paradise, featuring a perfect blend of national Italian and Alpine Tyrolean cuisine. Across the vast area, you will find some of the finest mountain restaurants in the world.
There are 48 Michelin-star restaurants to choose from. Yet it is hard to tell them apart from their lesser-known neighbours. Standards are so high throughout the area, that you’ll be reluctant at times to leave lunch and continue your adventure.
Rather than treating your dining as a separate après ski activity, you can enjoy a gourmet ski safari. This involves travelling the mountains to visit 3 to 5 Michelin-star chefs in one day and trying their best dishes. You will have the chance to discuss the dishes with the chefs, which makes this particularly appealing to food fanatics.
In most ski resorts in Italy, the ski season starts in early/mid-December and runs through to around mid-April. Cervinia in Italy is one of the higher-altitude ski resorts and hence the ski season is slightly longer. In Cervinia, you can typically ski between October and May.
Italy doesn’t possess anywhere near the number of luxury ski chalets for rent as France, Switzerland or Austria. There are not many Italian luxury ski chalets for rent and fewer still meet our high standards.
We have spent over a decade collecting the best luxury chalets in Italy. You can see the results of our work in the map and list views below. However, we appreciate that choosing a luxury Italian ski chalet can still be difficult. So, we’ve made it as easy as possible to browse and book the best.
To narrow your search, you can use our resort finder. Or find out more information about luxury resorts in the Italian Alps here. If you are still unsure which chalet will be best for you, you can get in touch and we can send you a tailored selection of options.
Skiing in Italy is a personal favourite of mine. There is so much to love about skiing in the Italian ski areas. Whether it’s in the more popular resorts to the west or the quieter locations around the Dolomites to the East.
Firstly, there’s the food. Mountain restaurants in Italian ski resorts are often cheaper and better than their European counterparts. Then there’s the warm and friendly welcome, and of course, the scenery is to die for.
There are far fewer luxury ski chalets in Italy than in the French, Austrian or Swiss Alps. The options are limited, but the options we do have are real gems.
The Dolomites offer fantastic skiing, charming villages and spectacular mountain landscapes – they should be on every skier’s bucket list. They have even been classified as a UNESCO world heritage site and we have a collection of magnificent luxury ski chalets to match.
Our Italian luxury ski chalets are among the finest in the world, yet each has a distinct feature and theme. Our Italian chalets contain everything you require, all that you want, and something special you weren’t expecting. Our collection includes luxury catered ski chalets in Italy, as well as self-catered ski chalets.
Luxury catered ski chalets are always popular in Italy. Keep the freedom to try Italy’s finest mountain restaurants, but take the culinary charm of your trip to the next level. Experience the taste of the best Italian mountain cuisine in the comfort of your luxury chalet. You can enjoy this ultimate private dining experience at the beginning and end of your day.
Some of our other popular collections of luxury chalets in Italy include chalets with swimming pools. We even have luxury ski chalets in Italy with outdoor swimming pools. These are the perfect destinations for luxury summer holidays in the mountains. Luxury chalets with hot tubs are just as popular. Relaxing in a hot tub with a glass of fizz, overlooking the mountains, is heaven.
Luxury ski-in/ski-out chalets are also popular in Italy, though a little harder to come by. However, rest assured that when you contact us, we can find exactly what you want, when you want it. We have several high-end chalets in our offline portfolio that may suit your tastes if those on the website do not.
