Although it was built in 1992 for the Winter Olympics, the low-rise, wooden-clad chalets and modest apartments give the village some alpine charm. Being small, there is a friendly and intimate feel to the village.
La Tania is peaceful, with a handful of lovely restaurants and bars, so makes a family-friendly destination with no compromise on the quality of the skiing.
La Tania has a warm, inviting atmosphere with the world’s largest skiing area on your doorstep. Due to its positioning, the tree-lined pistes are scattered with chocolate box ski chalets giving many of them fantastic ski-in/ski-out access.
Being a lesser-known resort, you can also expect to find more reasonably priced chalets available for those looking to stick to a smaller budget. The restaurants, bars and shops are also less expensive than the likes of Courchevel 1850 despite being just next door!
The ski season at La Tania runs from mid-December to mid-April. The resort is also open for the main summer months and the La Tania Gondola operates in the summer, ideal for bikers and hikers.
La Tania is located between Courchevel and Meribel and is approximately 2 hours 30-minute drive from Geneva airport.
All ski levels are well taken care of in La Tania from absolute beginners to hard-core experts. There is plenty for everyone within the vast Three Valleys ski area. Beginners can get to grips with skiing on the easy nursery slope directly in front of the village centre, where there is a ‘magic carpet’ ski lift to make things easy for novices.
More accomplished skiers have almost endless options to choose from. On the one side, you have the Courchevel sector and on the other, you have the Meribel Valley. Keep going up and over and you’ll find the resorts of Val Thorens, Les Menuires and St. Martin de Belleville. In total there are 600km of pistes in the Three Valley ski area, so plenty of terrain for even the speediest skier.
Even close to home, there is a great deal of fun to be had on the slopes. In Courchevel, there is a family park with fantastic options for all levels. Beginners can try their hand at the easy rollers, whilst the park rats among us can get some airtime on the kickers!
The lower slopes down to La Tania are through the trees in the shade for much of the day, keeping the snow better for longer. Though La Tania is a low-altitude ski resort, all the pistes around the village (and indeed most of the Three Valleys) are equipped with snow cannons, so guests can be assured of snow cover.
When you’re not in your luxury ski chalet in La Tania, due to its small size, there isn’t a huge amount to do in the village itself. However, the fantastic positioning of La Tania makes it incredibly quick and easy to get to the larger surrounding resorts.
For those looking to pamper themselves throughout the trip, Le Chabichou Spa in Courchevel 1850 is excellent. They have a large sensory pool, hammam, rainforest shower, polar bath, salt grotto and more. Between Courchevel 1550 and Courchevel 1650, there is a leisure centre ideal for both adults and children.
If you’re planning a romantic surprise for your partner, we would highly recommend a hot air balloon ride which starts from the altiport in Courchevel 1850. Also on offer is tandem paragliding, dog sledging, and even taking a ride on a piste basher!
An afternoon in the Forum Centre in Courchevel 1850 will be sure to keep the kids happy with an ice rink, a climbing wall, and a bowling alley.
Even though La Tania is small, there are still a few good options for dining out, both up on the mountain and down in the village.
At the top of the La Tania gondola is the mountain restaurant Bouc Blanc, which has a fabulous large sun terrace. This is a great spot to bask in the sunshine and take in those jaw-dropping views. Offering better value than many of its Courchevel counterparts, Bouc Blanc serves traditional mountain fare.
Down in La Tania, you’ll find options from low-key lunch spots by the piste for hungry skiers, to cosy bistros serving Savoyard specialities. La Taiga is famous for its traditional raclette and fondue in a cosy setting with a bar downstairs, they often also have live bands and DJs.
Though La Tania doesn’t necessarily spring to mind as being an après ski “hot spot”, as it grows in popularity, this mindset is certainly beginning to shift. Le Ski Lodge is a fantastic bar in the heart of the village with live music most evenings, and reasonably priced drinks options. They are also known for serving up delicious burgers on the sunny outdoor terrace.
Almost all our chalets in La Tania are within 70m of the nearest piste, but there are a few that have ski-in/ski-out access for those wanting to roll out of bed and into their skis!
Chalet Herisson provides the perfect luxury bolthole for a family holiday in La Tania. On the edge of the Moretta Blanche piste, Herisson has a delightful setting of snow-covered pine trees and mountain views. Simple but sophisticated, Herisson has a calm and cosy feel. Out on the terrace with a day of quality skiing behind you, soak in the sunken hot tub pick a favourite run or nominate a jerry of the day!
There are a few simple pleasures we all look for when on a luxury ski holiday, and Chalet Herisson ticks plenty of those boxes. A light and spacious living area with a gorgeous log fireplace, an outdoor hot tub, and the slopes are just a few steps away – a dreamy winter escape.
From the outside, Chalet Ecritoire could be something right out of a fairytale, and the inside doesn’t disappoint either. Gorgeous wooden floors, a log-burning fireplace and an outdoor hot tub surrounded by pine trees.
Not only does Chalet Ecritoire benefit from ski-in/ski-out access but it is also only 50m from the bottom of the piste which makes strolling in and out of the centre of the village extremely easy.
