Tignes Resort Guide

The resort itself consists of the main areas of Val Claret, Le Lac, and Le Lavachet and then Les Brévières further down the mountain. There is also a lively après ski scene for a post-ski drink on your luxury ski holiday.

One of the highest resorts in the Alps it offers a snow-sure factor and is open all year round as there is even a glacier for summer skiing.

If you’re looking for guaranteed skiing every day of your ski holiday, a luxury ski chalet in Tignes is what you’re after. The town’s 1960s architecture is a bit love-it-or-hate-it but mid-century style fans will be right at home, and anyway, what it lacks in classic mountain village charm it makes up for in snow, snow and more snow! Tignes’ altitude in the Espace Killy ski area makes it snow-sure for most of the year, and the area boasts some of the best skiing in Europe.

In the Tignes villages, there are plenty of bars, shops and restaurants to keep you occupied on your luxury ski holiday, as well as a bowling alley, cinema and sports centre with a swimming pool to name but a few of the extra activities available. Nobody will be left without something to do on a luxury ski holiday in Tignes.

After a day enjoying the thrills and spills of this fabulous ski area, you’ll be more than ready to retire to the fluffy duvets and plump pillows of your luxury chalet.

When to Ski in Tignes

What We Love About Tignes

We love the snow-sure high altitude and endless skiing of the Espace Killy ski area.

Getting to Tignes

Chambéry airport is 1.5 hours away. Geneva airport is 3 hours away.

The Skiing in Tignes

Tignes is divided into the main areas of Les Brévières, Le Lavachet, Le Lac and Val Claret, the latter being the highest part of the resort, and offers a wide range of ski options for the beginner up to the very experienced skier in each of these areas as well as being well linked to Val d’Isere to make the Tignes – Val d’Isere ski area.

The highlight for serious snow bunnies is the Grande Motte glacier, which sits at an altitude of 3,656m and is accessed from Val Claret in the Espace Killy ski area. Up here there are a variety of blue, red and black runs to suit all levels and those who just fancy a spot of lunch, can easily take the Funicular and dine at Le Panoramic.

The Best Places To Eat and Drink in Tignes

Some hardcore skiers around the Tignes – Val d’Isere area may think lunch is for wimps, but those with a more balanced approach to their luxury ski holiday will not be left disappointed with a huge variety of options available both on and off the mountain.

We love Le Soli, on the mountain between Le Lac and Les Boisses, which serves Savoyard specialities with a peaceful view. Le Panoramic sits at ‘the top of the world’ and offers a range of dining options with (on good weather days) excellent views of the Glacier.

For those venturing out of their luxury ski chalet for après ski in the evening, Le Loop is a good option and has a lovely sun terrace you can ski onto and a log fire in its bar area. And Grizzly’s Bar in Val Claret is a warm and cosy stop for après, decked out in furs and hand-carved wooden furniture.

Also worth a mention is Couloir Bar, which as well as offering cocktails for a lively après ski session with live music, also has a restaurant serving a menu of French /English fusion dishes.

If the chef in your luxury chalet has a night off, Le Table en Montagne won’t disappoint for dinner. This restaurant within the 5* Les Suites du Névada in Val Claret, offers discreet service and offers contemporary Savoyard cuisine.

Meat and fish are cooked on hot stones and brought to your table to be carved before you and fresh bread, vegetables and dessert will be brought to the table to be served.

L’Armailly Restaurant in Tignes Les Brévières is a good option for lunch or dinner. With a sun terrace, wine cellar and traditional French food, you will not be disappointed. A Pizza delivery service is also available within Les Brevieres if you fancy a night in on the chef’s night off.

Also popular is La Ferme des 3 Capucines in Le Lavachet. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and serves well-executed simple dishes. In addition to the popular dishes of Fondu and raclette, the menu is changeable and presented on large blackboards at each table, there is also a log fire in the corner of the restaurant which adds to the cosy alpine charm. Booking in advance is recommended!
