Unlike most ski resorts, Davos in Switzerland is actually a reasonably large town (or rather a merging of 2 towns) so there is plenty to do there. Perhaps best known as the location of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Davos is located close to the nearby resort of Klosters, known for its royal connections.

As Europe’s highest town at 1560m altitude, Davos is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the fabulous skiing to be found in the surrounding mountains. Davos was originally a health resort where people were sent to breathe in the Swiss mountain air, are now fine hotels and the resort is a bustling town. Step out of your luxury ski chalet in Davos and not only can you enjoy a large, varied ski area with long runs down to Klosters, but some great snowboarding too.
We love the excellent Davos Klosters ski area – wonderfully long, cruising runs down to Klosters and the numerous itinerary routes on ungroomed Pischa mountain.
Zurich and Basel airports are 2 hr 30 min by car and Friedrichshafen is a 2 hr drive. There is a train station in Davos so the resort can also be directly accessed by train.
The après ski scene in Davos tends to be fairly subdued although there is a wide choice of restaurants in town. The better restaurants tend to be in the hotels. There are a handful of sophisticated clubs. Cabanna in Hotel Europe is recommended.
Up the mountain, the Weissfluggipfel restaurant is highly recommended, with its superb food and stunning views over the Alps from Bernina to Säntis.
The ski area is vast and varied. Davos links with the ski areas of Klosters, the royal favourite, which gives five mountains to explore over both sides of the valley. Although accessed separately, Firefly guests have the service of chauffeur-driven 4x4s on-call to whisk them to their chosen ski area from the doorstep of their luxury ski chalet.
There is plenty to do for advanced skiers with over 300kms of trails and some of the best off-piste in Europe but Davos really excels for intermediate skiers. All five mountains boast excellent cruising runs with some gloriously long, mostly easy, runs down to Klosters. There are several beginners’ slopes dotted around and even a designated ‘slow’ piste alongside the Parsennbahn, great for beginners on a luxury ski holiday in Davos.
For snowboarders, Davos is something of a Mecca. There are superb parks, tree-runs and freeride heaven on Pischa mountain, a designated freeride territory with ungroomed pistes.
