Verbier Resort Guide

Verbier has earned the reputation of being one of the most glamorous ski resorts in the world and is home to some of the finest luxury ski chalets. Its après-ski is also some of the best on offer in Europe with a variety of buzzing bars, and there are some great restaurants to choose from, both on the mountain and in Verbier village itself.

At an altitude of 1500m, Verbier sits on a gently sloping sunny plateau high above the valley, rather than at the bottom of a valley like most other ski resorts.

This gives one key advantage – the sun doesn’t disappear behind a mountain mid-afternoon, so you can head back to Verbier at the end of the day and enjoy an apres-ski drink on the terrace of one of the buzzing bars, or from your luxury ski chalet, bask in the late sunshine and enjoy the spectacular views of the distant jagged peaks.

The Celebrity Ski Resort

Verbier is often the resort of choice for a plethora of celebrities. There is certainly no shortage of stylish luxury ski chalets, little boutiques, jewellery shops, and ski shops selling the latest designer gear.

Forming part of the renowned 4 Vallées, Verbier is arguably one of the best ski resorts worldwide and home to many of the finest luxury ski chalets in Switzerland.

With access to over 400kms of manicured pistes and 93 state-of-the-art lifts as well as being one of the few resorts in the Alps offering lifts to off-piste, free-ride areas, Verbier also boasts some of the world’s greatest skiing.

Its location within the Val de Bagnes affords the stylish village unrivalled southwest-facing views and glorious late-setting sun – a rare treat in the world of ski resorts. This has also helped Verbier become known for having one of the best après ski scenes in the Alps.

Verbier’s reputation as being one of the Alps’ finest ski resorts, together with the mouth-watering selection of luxury ski chalets on offer from Firefly Collection, makes Verbier an ever-popular choice for those skiers in the know.

When to Visit Verbier

Verbier has a huge variety of runs so it will appeal to all levels and it packs in some of the best off-piste in Europe. The village has a cool apres-ski vibe and we love the late afternoon sun.

Getting to Verbier

Geneva airport is approximately 2 hours drive away and Bern airport is around 2 hours 10 minutes drive. The nearest train station is Le Châble, 15 mins drive from Verbier. It is also possible to take a gondola lift from Le Châble to Verbier.

Skiing in Verbier

Verbier has earned a certain reputation – that of freeride heaven. For experienced skiers, Verbier is second to none. You’ll find the torturous Tortin, a 1300m vertical descent of serious moguls and some of the best lift-served off-piste anywhere in the Alps, which includes Mont Gelé, a jagged peak with a cable car up to 3023m and no pistes down. It’s not for nothing that this is the location of the Yeti Xtreme Verbier Extreme freeriding event.

But Verbier is not only good for the advanced skiers. It’s part of the extensive 4-Valleys ski area which links together the sleepy villages of Siviez, Nendaz and Veysonnaz-Thyon to give you over 410km of pistes. There’s plenty there to keep all levels of skier on a luxury ski holiday in Verbier happy for a week. There is also the separate area of Savoleyres close to the centre of Verbier which has plenty of quiet, cruisy blue runs through the trees making it ideal for intermediates.

Verbier is also a great luxury ski destination for families, with some areas of the mountain offering quiet relaxed cruising in wide sunny bowls. The main beginner slopes of Les Esserts are just at the top of Verbier, a short drive up the hill from the town centre, away from the main ski areas.

Kids and adults alike will love the dedicated toboggan run in Savoleyeres.

Best Places To Eat and Drink in Verbier

There are plenty of lively, hip bars and clubs to appeal to the young and beautiful crowd in Verbier, maintaining the resort’s reputation as a party town, but for those looking for something a bit more sedate, there are also a number of more sophisticated and civilised options to try on a luxury ski holiday in Verbier.

There is a good selection of restaurants in Verbier. Try Michelin-starred Chalet d’Adrien for great steaks, and Ecurie has a traditional Swiss ambience.

Up the mountain, a personal favourite is Cabane Mont Fort, a proper old-school mountain refuge that stands out from most of the other cafeteria-style restaurants dotted around the ski area. The food is excellent quality authentic mountain fayre, but if you are visiting on the staff night off at your luxury ski chalet with a private chef it does get busy so it’s worth booking a table.
