Luxury Villas > England > Hampshire

The perfect blend of countryside and coastline, Hampshire sits in pride of place in the south of England, offering everything from lavish listed stately homes, to shores ideal for sailing and surprisingly, some of England’s finest vineyards. With so much to see and do, a luxury house in Hampshire is the ideal place from which to explore all the county has to offer.

Hampshire Region Guide

Step back in time and Hampshire was once home to England’s national treasure, Jane Austen. These days you can walk in the footsteps of the Pride and Prejudice author during a visit to the writer’s house turned museum. If the humble abode of Austen is a little on the small side for your outing, the same won’t be said for Highclere Castle. Put on the map as the grand residence of Downton Abbey, you can recline in the spring gardens over afternoon tea or a champagne picnic.

For nature lovers, the question is countryside or coastline? Those who prefer woodlands to waves will find themselves at home in the beautiful greenery of the New Forest. Spot wild ponies along the Tall Trees Walk, savour the sunset at Hatchet Pond or race through the day at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu.

If the seashore is a sure bet for you, you will love the coastline that stretches along the south of Hampshire. Sailing schools galore prepare avid watergoers for races such as the Round the Island Race and the Clipper Race, or if you just want to admire the sails from afar, age-old Cowes Week is one of the most respected regattas worldwide, whilst the Southampton Boat Show offers the chance to see the latest nautical debuts and adrenaline-filled RIB boat adventures.

Yet should you wish to just lose yourself in the calm of the vast countryside, whether it be by foot or by bike, you are spoilt for choice with endless trails. With over 750 off-road cycle routes, from circular journeys through the South Downs National Park to easy-going flat circuits such as the West Wood Trail at Farley Mount, there’s something to suit all abilities. Combine walking with cityscapes on Keat’s Walk – Ode to Autumn, which follows in the poet’s footsteps which inspired the poem of the same name.

When to Visit Hampshire

Hampshire is a year-round destination to be enjoyed, with many quaint market towns and all-weather walking routes. However, the beautiful beaches are best enjoyed in the warmer weather days throughout July to August, and many of the sailing events for the diary take place in these months.

Autumn is a sensational time to visit the New Forest, with fiery leaves making for vivid walks during September and October, whilst the spring month of April is the perfect time for walks in the countryside and watching the flowers burst into life. Don’t miss out on Beaulieu’s annual firework display for Bonfire Night.

What we Love About Hampshire

We love that Hampshire is home to an abundant number of vineyards and distilleries, varietals of which fly their way onto the tables of Michelin-star restaurants worldwide. Pink dry English sparkling wine is the flavour of The Grange Vineyard, which you can purchase to enjoy in your private luxury house in Hampshire. Gin lovers will be in their element at a cocktail masterclass or tour of the Bombay Sapphire Distillery.
