Your own private castle, towering above the shimmering sea, with a secret path that leads to a remote pebble beach… when it comes to luxury villas in Tuscany, this really is the jewel in the crown.
Castello de’ Medici has a simply sublime setting. Standing alone at the peak of a lush promontory, it’s impossible to tire of the 360-degree vista here, whether you’re watching the outline of the coast come into view at sunrise, marvelling at the various shades of blue in the heat of the day, or witnessing the sun sink below the horizon at dusk.
Take a dip in the private swimming pool and you’ll feel as though you’re floating high above the Tuscan Sea. It’s easy to reach the beach too; a five-minute stroll down a path from the castle will lead you to a remote pebble beach where you can while away the afternoon breathing in the sea air.
Built by the Medici family in the 1500s, this luxury villa has a fascinating heritage and rich time-honoured decor. Expect glittering chandeliers, feature fireplaces, bespoke paintings and plush drapes adorning floor-to-ceiling windows, alongside modern-day facilities including a well-equipped kitchen and a soothing sauna.
Bedrooms at Castello de’ Medici are traditional in style, with many featuring exposed beams and dark wooden sleigh beds. Bag the master suite on the first floor for a balcony with sweeping views or choose to sleep up in the tower, where you’ll have access to the incredible tower-top terrace.
Castello de’ Medici has a striking hilltop spot overlooking the sea in Tuscany’s beautiful Punta Ala region and it’s just a 5 minutes walk to the pebble beach.
It’s a 10-minute walk to the marina, where you’ll find some lovely places to eat and drink, and a five-minute drive to the beach clubs.
The closest airport is Pisa, around 1 hour 30 minutes away.

How many children can claim to have stayed in their very own castle? That alone is sure to win brownie points with the younger guests in the group. Then there’s the fact that kids can splash about in the private pool, skip down to the pebble beach and sleep in the castle tower. There’s also a billiards room for family games.
It’s worth noting that the infinity-style design of the pool means it’s best suited to older children.
