Surely one of the cosiest luxury apartments in Zermatt, Chalet Carmen brings a bit of charming country cottage style to the mountains.
Spread over the top two floors of a beautiful building, perched on a hill in the centre of Zermatt, the property’s sloping ceilings, pretty balconies and corners to snuggle up in make this one of the most warm and welcoming chalets you’ll find – the perfect place to cosy up with friends or family for your snowy adventure.
The heart of the property is the open plan living room, decorated in calming neutrals and with a roaring fire that doubles as a woodfired oven and comfy sofas that have views out of the corner windows of the property onto the mountains. The adjoining kitchen and dining spaces, with bar area, give everyone somewhere to relax together in the evenings to enjoy fine food and excellent wines.
Above the living area is a second, mezzanine living room, that works well as either a TV and games room, or a quiet spot to sit with a book should you feel in need of a bit of quiet me-time.
On snowy afternoons, after you’ve returned from the slopes there’s plenty of space to relax at Chalet Carmen, but you might also like to pop down to the shared wellness area where you can soothe away any aches and pains from skiing in the sauna and steam room.
In the evenings, gather for champagne and canapés around the fire while your chef prepares a gourmet four-course meal for you. Then perhaps take your drinks out onto the balconies with a blanket to enjoy the mountain air, before retiring to comfy and cosy en-suite rooms for a good night’s sleep before tomorrow’s adventures.
This luxury ski chalet in Zermatt makes up the two floor apartment at the top of Chalet Vanessa. It’s perched on a hill, but on the main street running through Zermatt, and is accessed via a tunnel and lift.
Chalet Carmen is just 200 metres from the end of the ski runs and only 2 minutes from the Matterhorn Express lift and 4 minutes from the church square.
Zermatt is a car-free resort which has a railway station, so guests often arrive by train.
Geneva Airport is approximately 3 hours drive away.

Sit back and let the staff at Chalet Carmen take care of all the catering for you.
Each morning, a full cooked breakfast is served to set you up for a day on Zermatt’s slopes, and when you return to your chalet in the afternoon, tea and cake are waiting for you. If you need a little something in between there are plenty of wonderful restaurants out on the mountain where you can pause for a bite to eat and to watch the world go by. But many guests find Carmen’s substantial breakfasts and home-cooked afternoon treats are enough for them. And you’ll want to leave plenty of room to enjoy a fabulous evening meal, of course.
While your chef gets started, champagne and fingerfoods are served to whet your appetite, from sushi rolls and tempura to good old fashioned sausage rolls and warming shots of soup. That’s followed by a four-course gourmet meal, each course beautifully designed to look as wonderful as it tastes, and all washed down with a specially selected red and white wine each evening. There’s also an open bar if you prefer something else.
On the staff’s day off, a continental breakfast will be left out for you and they’ll be pleased to assist with restaurant bookings. We love local favourite, The Omnia, which has a Michelin star, and the Peruvian/Asian fusion La Muna.
Chalet Carmen can also be booked on a self-catered or B&B basis if you prefer.

Younger visitors are made very welcome at Chalet Carmen. Three of the four bedrooms can be configured as twin rooms for those bringing children.
There’s plenty of space to play and children will love some of the exciting features such as the open fire that doubles as a wood-fired oven – perfect for pizza nights! There’s also a TV snug and 150 channels to choose from, so little ones can be kept entertained easily while the adults catch up in the evenings.
Zermatt is car-free so always a popular choice for families. There are several kids’ clubs within the resort as well as a fabulous ski area for beginners and younger skiers.
Your chef will be happy to tailor menus to younger palates wherever necessary. Nannies and babysitters can be arranged on request.
