Understated glamour is what it’s all about at Chalet Tomkins. This luxury ski chalet in Meribel has a highly exclusive address – one of the first in the town, in fact – but it doesn’t like to shout about it.
A palette of slate greys and creams, with occasional bursts of colour, creates a cocooning feel with an element of fun and makes this a great property for several families to share. The vaulted living room with imposing fireplace and a pretty chaise is the ideal spot to relax and enjoy afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks after your morning’s skiing. It is possible to ski back to the chalet during most of the season (snow permitting), so as soon as your stomach tells you it’s time to refuel, you can be home in a jiffy.
As well as the spacious living room there is also an entertainment floor with billiards and games room where the kids can play (and adults can hang out with a drink and a billiards cue, pretending they’re in a real-life Cluedo game).
Adjacent is the sauna and massage room, so after you’ve climbed out of your ski gear, you can head straight there to warm up and ease muscles. And before you go upstairs to join your fellow guests, why not pop into the wine cave to have a browse through the bottles you’ll be enjoying with dinner?
Then it’s off to bed. Each of the luxury en-suite bedrooms is decked out beautifully with luxury linens, bathrobes, slippers, hairdryers and anything else you could need to make your own little home from home.
This luxury ski chalet is located on the Route des Chalets. The main slope into town, the Doron Piste, is just a minute’s walk from Chalet Tomkins. You enter the piste just above the super-fast Adret chairlift which takes six people and links you to the ski network without having to go all the way down to the La Chaudanne lifts.
The nearest airports are Chambery (1h 15m) and Lyon (1h 55m) whilst Grenoble and Geneva are both approximately 2 hours drive away.

In the afternoons, enjoy freshly baked afternoon treats which will be served to you alongside hot drinks, to warm you up after a long day on the slopes.
Each evening, your chef will create a delicious 3-course meal whilst you help yourself to the open bar and try the delightful canapés. And to finish the evening, unwind in front of the fire with a cheeseboard and night cap, the best way to end a day. For children they can also provide an early children’s tea.
The chef has one day off, when a continental breakfast and afternoon tea will be served, allowing you to explore the local restaurants in Meribel for dinner.
Alternatively, you can enjoy the more flexible ‘A la Carte’ dining experience where you can choose the food and drink you require, be it a simple family meal, coming back for lunch in the chalet or a seven course-tasting menu with paired wines.
