Description

Countryside retreats don’t come much more magical than this. Domaine de l’Héraude is a luxury villa in Provence where you are immersed in nature and history, and yet have all the mod cons you could ask for.

The villa is set in 15 hectares of lush oak and pine forests alongside a vineyard and a truffle oak plantation, and these grounds are themselves located within the 1,500 acre Chateau de Berne wine estate. The estate offers a total escape from the world, and an opportunity to get back to nature and appreciate the simple things in life, as well as some little luxuries such as the hotel’s three swimming pools, tennis and pétanque courts, as well as a fitness suite.

Domaine de l’Héraude sits in a quiet corner of this large wine estate, offering peace and privacy alongside all the amenities offered by the Berne Hotel.

The traditional exterior of the property, with its Provencal stone and pretty shutters offers everyone a warm welcome. Step inside and natural materials such as wood and stone create a homely and laid-back feel. A light and airy living room with huge French windows, a fireplace and walls covered with books and artworks has the eclectic feel of staying in the home of good friends. With a refectory table at one end, it’s a wonderful space in which to get together. For anyone seeking a little quiet and calm there is also an office area off the main living room, and also a restful library and TV room at the front of the house.

The heart of the home is the large kitchen, well-equipped for those self-catering and decorated in typical Provencal farmhouse style – a sunny afternoon spent in here experimenting with local and seasonal ingredients is never wasted. Adjacent is the cool and airy dining room, with lots of room at the table for good foods and fine wines, alongside plenty of easy-flowing conversation.

The four individually decorated bedrooms, with their exposed wooden beams and beautiful Salernes floor tiles are each a lovely place to retreat to with a book and a drink at the end of the evening. With a butler and concierge on hand to ensure everything is just as you like it, you should feel well rested at Domaine de l’Héraude, and sleep should come easy here, too.
