Some holidays are more than a break from the everyday; they’re like stepping into another world. L’Étoile des Baux is one of those luxury holiday villas. Built directly into the rock, with stone protruding beautifully into several of the rooms, this Provençal mas (traditional farmhouse) has a dream-like quality that is utterly relaxing and so magical you’ll occasionally wonder if you dreamt it all…
Set in the Alpilles, in the middle of the stunning village of Les Baux-de-Provence, you’d be forgiven for never wanting to leave the four walls of the villa. That said, the villa’s location makes it the perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of the world, wandering through fragrant, colourful markets, walking alongside verdant fields and exploring some of the most beautiful villages in the world.
But the villa itself is what brings people back again and again. It’s impossible not to relax here, with the stunning views and nature wherever you look, even in the very walls of this property. The juxtaposition of thousands-of-years-old stone and bright, modern furniture gives L’Étoile des Baux a unique character. Each of the eight bedrooms is individually designed to give the occupant a light and airy bolthole to call their own. The rest of the indoor spaces are pared back, shady and offer acres of space in which to gather, relax alone, party and rest. As well as the living and dining areas and two kitchens, the property also has a bar, library, gym, TV room and epicerie, as well as two wine cellars.
The outdoor space where the real magic happens. An alfresco living and dining area in the property’s gardens allow you to live a true outdoor lifestyle here. The swimming pool, adjacent, is spectacular, backed by craggy rocks and surrounded by lush greenery and the sound of cicadas singing; the perfect spot in which to spend a hot afternoon. There’s also an outdoor games space with table football and table tennis, and, the jewel in this property’s crown: the open air theatre and cinema – because watching any film or play is so much more magical under the stars.
Whatever you want from your stay at this luxury villa, your dedicated villa manager is on hand to make it a reality.

Each morning a breakfast of delicious local and seasonal foods is served; this really is a foodie’s paradise, with plenty of markets where you can pick up all manner of wonderful provencal specialities (there’s much more to the area than just the olives but they really are amazing) and then enjoy long, relaxed lunches back at the villa, washed down with some fabulous wines.
Throughout the months of June, July and August, six out of seven days, your talented chef will prepare a scrumptious lunch or dinner to suite your preference and take any special dietary requirements into consideration.
On chef’s day off, if you wish to eat out, the villa manager will be only too pleased to make recommendations and bookings for you. The area is home to several outstanding and Michelin-starred restaurants. We particularly love the three-Michelin-starred Oustau de Baumaniere as well as Chez Paulette in the pretty village of Eygalieres.
Please note that cost of food and drinks will be charged for separately, allowing the chef to tailor menus to your exact requirements.

Children will be enchanted by this magical home built into the rocks. Whole afternoons can easily be lost to splashing in the outdoor swimming pool and running around the beautiful gardens, which include a relaxation area with table football and table tennis.
A highlight will definitely be the open air theatre/cinema – just ask your hosts to arrange an evening’s entertainment (and don’t forget the popcorn!). But if a shower rolls in, there’s plenty of space in this eight-bedroom villa and even a cosy TV room to catch a movie on a rainy night.
Your host will be happy to arrange entertainment, outdoor adventures and also childcare if the grown-ups wish to enjoy an evening out, too.
