Teeming with wildlife and surrounded by pristine beaches, coral reefs and crystal clear turquoise water, Necker Island is arguably the most beautiful spot in the British Virgin Islands and every bit as idyllic as you would imagine, since it’s Sir Richard Branson’s private luxury island retreat.
He’s created a super-exclusive playground for a maximum of 34 adults and 6 children, with every whim taken care of by a team of dedicated staff. There are a number of Balinese-style luxury villas dotted around the island including Temple House, Richard’s private home, with its freshwater infinity pool, lush tropical gardens, freestanding marble bath with breath-taking views out to sea.
Some of the villas are perched up on the cliff-top making the most of the sea breezes and some are nestled in the middle of the island offering wonderful seclusion, expansive views and a large private pool.
As a guest at Necker Island, you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained. There is a full compliment of watersports toys down on the beach including a trampoline floating on the sparkling lagoon. The stunning turquoise waters that surround the island offer the perfect place for a spot of snorkelling and scuba diving too. Or if you fancy venturing further afield why not charter Necker Belle for the day, Richard Branson’s very own super yacht. It also works well as additional guest accommodation, with four luxurious cabins to sleep up to eight guests.
Alternatively, for something more relaxing on the island, you can drop in to the island’s own spa for a soothing massage whilst gazing out over the sparkling water, or for something a little bit special why not take a scenic sunset cruise around the island.
Nature lovers will love spotting the lemurs, flamingos, giant tortoises and iguanas that call Necker Island their home – it truly is your very own private tropical paradise.
The 74-acre private island can be hired exclusively or on an individual room basis for selected weeks.
Location
Necker Island is in the British Virgin Islands, about 10 minutes by the island’s private launch from Virgin Gorda and 30 minutes from Beef Island (Tortola). When you arrive at the port Necker’s friendly team will be there to welcome you before your short journey to the Island.
Virgin Gorda has its own small airport, or you can fly into Beef Island (Tortola) from San Juan in Puerto Rico (35 minutes), St. Thomas in Antigua (1 hour 20 minutes) or from Barbados (4 hours 15 minutes with stopover).
For an entertaining alternative to scheduled flights, why not charter a helicopter or seaplane and land directly at Necker Island (weather permitting).
It takes approximately 1.5 hours to walk from one end of the island to the other.

Bedrooms
Necker Island sleeps up to 34 adults and 6 children.
Accommodation at Necker Island consists of 8 beautiful private houses, built in traditional Balinese style dotted across the island, and 8 bedrooms located in The Great House alongside a bunkroom to sleep up to 6 children.
The Great House
All bedrooms have a large balcony with views either overlooking the ocean or across the island and feature en-suite bathrooms.
The master suite is located on the top floor with spectacular views to be enjoyed from the sun deck with private outdoor Jacuzzi and outdoor bath.
Eight of the bedrooms in The Great House can be split into twins.
Bedroom nine has step free access.
Bedrooms 2 and 3 and 7 and 8 interconnect with each other, while rooms 4, 5 and 6 can be linked.
Balinese Houses
All houses have king-sized beds, however Bali Beach and Bali Buah can also be split into twins. All rooms are air-conditioned and have a music system.
Bali Beach, Bali Hi and Bali Cliff are clustered together overlooking the ocean.
Bali Lo, Bali Buah and Bali Kukila are located in the centre of the Island and share a large swimming pool.
Temple House is the master suite located in the middle of the Island with panoramic views. There is also a freshwater pool, marble bath, large lounge with TV and surround sound as well as a well-equipped kitchen.
Love Temple is located nearby Temple House and is accessible via a short grass path. It features an open air bathroom and a lawn terrace.

The luxury catamaran, Necker Belle, can also be moored alongside the island offering further accommodation in its four permanent cabins at an additional cost.
Dining
A stay at Necker Island is rather special, and the food is no exception. A michelin-trained chef and the rest of the team will be at your service to create whatever you want, be it a formal dinner in the Temple House, a buffet on the beach or a casual snack by the pool. Here it’s all about you, so you can decide whatever, wherever and whenever you would like eat. Though make sure you don’t miss out on Necker’s famous floating sushi bar in the beach pool!
All food is included as well as all drinks, and that includes house wines and champagnes.
Staff
The exclusive estate comes with a full team of staff to take care of everything from catering, housekeeping and laundry to help with water sports, excursions and other activities.
Kids
Children are very welcome at Necker Island and will love exploring the island, discovering the abundant wildlife and meeting the resident flamingos, lemurs, iguanas and giant turtles.
Little adventurer’s will love the thrill of taking the zip line down to Turtle Beach- is there a cooler way to arrive for a day of sandcastle making?
Dining can be tailored specially for the children, with their own menu.
Babysitters are available, however private nannies should be pre-booked in advance.
