Let the stresses of everyday life float away on a cloud of lavender-scented, sun-drenched bliss. Villa Gauggiole is a luxury villa in Tuscany that seems designed to induce a sense of relaxation. Renovated to the very highest of standards, this property has an almost-magical way of naturally relaxing you – quiet and serenity seem to seep from its very stone. The building, which was once home to a large farming family, is nestled among vineyards and surrounded by a beautiful garden, with a semi-wild feel, where lavender scrambles across paths, scenting your way as you walk.
Across the grass, at the side of the private, heated pool, you can lounge with drinks and simply stare out at the undulating landscape across the vineyards and to the proud cypress trees in the distance. A well-appointed pool house is a handy addition for parents, meaning children need not be left unsupervised while you prepare snacks or retire to the shade for a while.
The interior has been sensitively renovated, making the most of the beautiful original features – the property’s wooden beams, stone fireplace and tiled floors – which bring warmth, charm and character to the luxury living accommodation. The communal living and dining areas are beautifully cosy, yet with a sophisticated feel, while the bedrooms are light, calming and decked out in stunning fabrics and soft furnishings.
And while the villa’s staff are almost invisible, being located on the exclusive Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco estate means you also have access to all the facilities you would expect of a top-class hotel – from fabulous golf and spa on site to wonderful restaurants just a pleasant stroll away – the best of all worlds.
This luxury villa with private swimming pool is set on the a 5,000-acre estate of Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco. Immersed in the UNESCO-listed Val d’ Orcia Natural Park, just outside Siena, the estate is also home to a private golf course, a leading Brunello di Montalcino winery and nature reserve, as well as a dense forest with deer, pheasants and wild boar.
The nearest airports are Florence, which is 1 hour 45 minutes away, and Pisa which is approximately a 2 hour 15 minute drive away. Private transfers to and from the hotel by helicopter or car can be arranged from the airports or main cities.

The estate on which the luxury villa is situated is home to two wonderful eating spots, Ristorante Campo de Drago, which serves traditional Tuscan cuisine alongside the estate’s own wines. The interiors are neutral and contemporary, and if you eat outside on the terrace you’ll enjoy a wonderful view of the hills and woodland below. Then there is the more casual trattoria, Osteria La Canonica, serving traditional Tuscan dishes. Both benefit from ingredients picked from the estate’s own garden and a rustic, local menu.
There is also a delivery service to your villa if you prefer, which includes a kids’ menu.
If you want to take a flavour of your holiday home with you, you can even take part in cookery classes at the estate’s cookery school and learn how to make everything from Tuscan favourites to fresh pasta.
