360° countryside views
BBQ & bread oven
Heated swimming pool
Wisteria pergola
Commanding an enviable spot atop its own hill, among the olive groves of the Castello di Reschio estate, is Villa Grugliano. With 360 degree views across the rolling hills of Umbria, this countryside retreat is the perfect home away from home for a family or group of friends.
As you approach Villa Grugliano, through its imposing gates and sweeping illuminated driveway lined with Cypress trees, you get a real sense of the calm from the moment you arrive. With a main house, a pool house and a gatehouse, up to 14 people can claim a nook of this authentic property to call their own.
Outside the traditional stone house, vast grounds of 1.5 hectares beckon. The rustic pergola dripping in wisteria is a superb spot for a refreshing drink in the day or an aperitif of an evening evening whilst the embers of the sunny day cast shadows across the hills in front of you. A heated swimming pool means laps are possible in any season, and a private pool house means you don’t have to go far for a shower or to chill out after taking a dip. Ideal for Italian evenings is the outside loggia, with wooden beamed ceilings sheltering a barbecue and wood-fired bread oven. The aromas of freshly baked bread and sizzling suppers on the BBQ are a delightful accompaniment to an evening of al fresco dining. And for budding botanists, the large lawns with flower beds are ideal for a stroll.
Inside, the warmth of the original wooden beams is balanced out by the cool white decor, perfect for sunny days and easily transformed with a roaring fire and underfloor heating for autumn and winter. The charming kitchen is adorned with white and blue tiles and pantries ready to fill to the brim with Italian delicacies. The French doors let in beams of light from the garden beyond, and we are sure the breakfast table will be the morning meeting hub where you can wake up to the aroma of brewing espressos. Modern touches such as winding spiral staircases and squishy chaise lounges bedeck the bedrooms, and a covered terrace adjoining the TV rooms has arched windows offering a sneak peak of the countryside beyond.
This is a luxury villa holiday that allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds. Peaceful and secluded though it is, Villa Grugliano is situated within the 2700-acre Castello di Reschio Estate, a highly exclusive collection of cottages and houses spread across this beautiful estate of woodlands, olive groves and vineyards. At the renowned restaurant on site, Osteria, you can eat out on nights when you don’t wish to cook, or have dinner delivered to your villa for an even more relaxing evening.
For those that want a little more action on their holiday, activities including mountain biking, horse riding, tennis and clay pigeon shooting can be arranged. And of course, the estate’s staff are always on hand to help – you’ll have your own maid and a concierge service so you never need lift a finger.
Whether you’re curled up in the house with a fire on cooler evenings or sitting poolside with a glass of wine pressed from grapes just metres away, this is a property where you can enjoy simply living in the moment. It’s the Umbrian way.
