The crème de la crème of the villas on this picturesque Umbrian estate, Villa Penna is a beautiful old stone building that has been impeccably restored and rejuvenated. Surrounded by greenery in every direction, the villa enjoys sweeping views across vineyards, olive groves and farmland on the hillsides around the estate.
No expense has been spared in turning this ancient building into a thing of beauty. The villa is on several levels, but clever architectural highlights like tall, arched windows and an open-plan layout ensure light pours through the building and into the different nooks and crannies of the social spaces.
There is a real emphasis on natural materials in the design and exposed beams and polished marble can be found throughout, while the walls are a beautiful light stone colour. In contrast to the earthy tones and materials, the soft furnishings are incredibly plush and add splashes of bold colour.
Much like its interiors, the garden at Villa Penna is the stuff of luxury magazines. Sprawling out to one side of the villa a large lawn gives way to the infinity pool and adjacent plush pool-house, compete with barbecue and shaded lounge area. For evening meals, there is a shaded lounge set between the main villa and annex, and a pebbled piazza where you can dine with views down the hillside framed by the pretty stone buildings either side.
Location
Villa Penna is located in the heart of Italy’s Umbrian countryside. As part of a vast sweeping estate, the villa enjoys easy access to the estate’s restaurant and amenities, and there is also a small local village within a 10 minute drive.
Further afield, you can get to Florence in less than two hours and Rome and Pisa in 2 hours 30 minutes, meaning you can choose which city to fly into.

The spacious kitchen has all the mod-cons you could need to rustle up classic Italian favourites, which are best enjoyed al fresco at the dining table outside the kitchen. For pizza lovers, you’ll also find a wood-fired oven here for a true taste of Italy.
Lazy lunches can be served in the pool house and breakfasts are best eaten out in the garden in the cool morning sunshine.
If cooking isn’t your thing, why not ask the estate owners to organise for an expert chef to come in and do the hard work for you? Or, perhaps get dressed up for an evening out at the estate’s Il Caldaro restaurant, where traditional Umbrian delicacies with a modern twist are always the dish of the day.

If your little ones are water babies and countryside kids then they will love Villa Penna. While they splash around in the pool you can enjoy some sunbathing from the comfort of a sun longer, and then when the heat of the day strikes the pool house makes the perfect spot for an afternoon nap – for children and parents alike! Part of the idyllic infinity pool offers shallow water, ideal for paddling.
Of course, the pizza oven will be a sure-fire highlight, and foodie kids will also love the opportunity to learn to cook with a cooking class on the estate that can be catered to all abilities.
For families with teenagers the villa’s separate sections come into their own, allowing parents and kids to have their own living quarters, and late-night games to be reserved to the pool house while the parents enjoy dinner party drinks. Table tennis on tap will also make for friendly competitions throughout your stay.
