Once a farmhouse, this luxury villa with a pool on the borders of Umbria and Tuscany is simply steeped in history. Nestled at the very heart of the renowned Castello di Reschio private estate and nature reserve, it offers true sanctuary.
This 3,700 acre estate houses 50 farmhouses, scattered far apart between olive groves and vineyards. Around half of these properties have been converted into luxury villas.
You’ll leave the outside world behind the moment you set eyes on the formal terraced garden at Villa Piantaverna crammed with fragrant fruit trees, lavender and rosemary. Countryside views from every vantage point add to the charm.
The main house has three bedrooms. Just off the courtyard, you’ll find a separate suite with one bedroom. There’s also an infinity pool looking out over a meadow – the ideal spot for basking in the Umbrian sunshine with a cocktail.
Of course, you might rouse yourself to sample activities including horse riding, tennis, clay pigeon shooting, wild boar hunting and mountain biking. But no one would judge you for staying poolside for as long as humanly possible.
There’s a huge open plan kitchen and dining room at Villa Piantaverna, which makes it a wonderful option for keen chefs. But for true relaxation, mealtimes can be enjoyed at the estate’s private restaurant, Osteria. Alternatively, dinners and drinks can be delivered direct to your door.

Location
Villa Piantaverna is located at the heart of the Castello di Reschio private estate and nature reserve on the borders of Umbria and Tuscany. Within an hours drive of the estate are towns including Perugia, Assisi, Arezzo, Cortona, Gubbio and Siena.
The nearest airport is Perugia, just 45 minutes drive away. Florence is around an hour and 45 minutes away and Pisa is 2 hours and 30 minutes away.

Keen chefs will love the impressive kitchen at Villa Piantaverna. There’s a separate larder including dishwasher and icemaker fridge. Villa Piantaverna’s light-filled dining room is linked to the kitchen. Meals can also be taken alfresco around the outdoor dining table in the garden.
For those who’d prefer time off from cooking during their luxury villa holiday, meals can be enjoyed at the estate’s private restaurant and kitchen, the Osteria. This relaxed restaurant offers traditional Umbrian dishes made with fresh, organic produce and meat from the estate and wider area. It also serves hand-picked Italian wines, including Reschio’s own San Giovese.
There is a terrace for summer and a cosy interior with open hearth – ideal for visits during cooler months.
The Kitchen Shop offers seasonal and specialist ingredients, home-cooked meals and anything from the wine list for delivery direct to your door. Reschio’s cooks are available in-house at an additional cost for everything from single meals to entire weeks including private cookery lessons.
