Imagine yourself on a Christmas ski holiday …you’re sat in front of a crackling log fire nestled deep into a comfy sofa at your luxury ski chalet, and you’re sipping on a warming glass of vin-chaud, as you gaze outside over picture-perfect mountains the snow is gently falling, and in the background, Christmas lights are twinkling away on the tree…sound tempting? We think so…
Christmas is such a magical time to be in the mountains. The scenery is breathtaking at any time, but at Christmas, there’s something truly special about it. Town centres come alive with the glow of gleaming lights and with the stunning backdrop of those wonderful snow-capped mountain views, it’s a real-life winter wonderland.
There is plenty going on too, with lashings of festive fun to be had. Husky sledging, tobogganing, firework displays, markets, visits to Father Christmas, it’s easy to soak up the festive atmosphere on a Christmas ski holiday in the Alps.
There’s nothing quite like spending the festive season in the Alps. Villages come alive with festive charm and there is plenty to keep all ages entertained both on and off the slopes. Christmas is often less commercialised on the continent, so you’ll get a real sense of the traditional spirit that the season brings. Many European countries hold their celebrations on the 24th of December, so you can even celebrate twice.
In many resorts, there are delightful markets to explore; live music, Santa’s grottos, and activities such as tree decorating which children will love! Oh and who can resist a snowman building competition?
Val d’Isere in the Val d’Isere -Tignes ski area offers a beautiful setting for Christmas with its 17th-century Savoie charm. In the few days leading up to the big day they hold torchlight descents and parades to get everyone in the festive spirit.
As a team of self-confessed ski addicts, we can think of no better way to start off Christmas morning than by heading out to the slopes to glide down freshly groomed pistes. Lifts usually operate as normal throughout Christmas day and the slopes are generally quieter meaning no queuing for lifts, though you might want to watch out for Santa on skis as you pass through the glistening tree tops on the way back to your luxury ski chalet for a decadent feast.
Often one of the most stressful parts of Christmas can be organising the catering. Stay in one of our stunning luxury ski chalets and you’ll have a team of experienced staff to do all the hard work for you, so that you can make the most of your precious time with friends and family.
In the morning wake up to tea and coffee or bucks fizz in bed, whilst you watch the children’s excitement at opening their stockings. Then enjoy a leisurely breakfast before perhaps heading out to the pistes for a few hours of snowy fun before being welcomed back to your luxury ski chalet with a roaring fire and a fine dining feast to indulge in, not forgetting the mince pies for afterwards. And when your busy skiing, who needs to worry about a few extra calories when you’ll be working them off on the mountains each day?
Book early enough and there are some great deals to be had on luxury ski chalets over the Christmas period offering fantastic value for money. Don’t wait too long however as peak weeks are booking up over the festive season.
Many of these chalets on our portfolio are located in world-class resorts such as Zermatt, Verbier and Val d’Isere which are renowned for their great snow record in both early and late seasons. Many also feature facilities’ that you would find in a five-star hotel, including pools, cinema and game rooms as well as ski-in/ski-out locations and stunning views to top it all off.
